Welcome to the Department of Political Science web page!

If you have already browsed the Rutgers University-Newark page, you know that our department is part of a renowned university that is situated in one of the world’s most important and dynamic metropolitan areas. Newark itself is a city that is experiencing an exciting renaissance. We see the wonderful new New Jersey Center for the Performing Arts and the skyline of Manhattan from our faculty offices on the 7th floor of Hill Hall.

The Department of Political Science offers an undergraduate major and a minor in Political Science, a Certificate in Public Administration and Policy Studies, and a Graduate Program with an M.A. in Political Science. We also are key participants in interdisciplinary minors in International Affairs and Legal Studies and Urban Studies. In addition, we have close ties with the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies, the Center for Global Change and Governance (CGCG), the Graduate Department of Public Administration and American Studies. The CGCG,Public Administration and American Studies also offer both Master’s and Ph.D. degrees.

Our department prides itself on first-rate teaching, including hands-on experiences for students through a variety of internships and an optional Washington Semester. Our faculty enjoys a national and an international reputation for distinguished research accomplishments.

Students in Political Science find themselves particularly well prepared for future careers and/or graduate work in such fields as law, public administration, non-governmental organizations, global affairs, women’s studies, and journalism. Political Science is a useful second major or minor for students planning a career in business or finance, or in criminal justice.
